Rings and Feminism

Check out these cool rings on this Brazilian site (in Portuguese). They have mushroom rings, topiary rings, and even a Cheshire Cat ring. They look a bit impractical, but they're really beautiful.

An interesting article with a feminist take on Linda Woolverton's script for the Tim Burton movie. I think it's pretty interesting and worth a read. One of my favorite parts in the movie is where Alice makes friends with the Bandersnatch, and the author talks about that a little bit.

Alice Live Ultimate Fan Event Recap

Unfortunately, my "real life" got in the way of watching the Alice in Wonderland live event that happened on Friday. Apparently, 400,000 viewers showed up to watch the show, which streamed live via the Alice in Wonderland MySpace page. Fan Site mia-wasikowska.net has more photos of the live event.

Disney has released a limited edition (or 500) Alice in Wonderland mouse ear hat.

The LA Times Blog goes into further detail of the growing friction between the movie theaters and Disney over when the DVD release of Alice in Wonderland will happen. It looks like AMC may join the boycott. A petition has been started which basically takes the position of the theaters. You can sign the petition here.

Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter Barbie

Almost without warning (at least it seems that way to me) Mattel has come out with a Tim Burton Mad Hatter doll. Amazon will have it in April BUT Entertainment Earth has it in stock and shipping now.

Hot Topic Merchandise for Alice

First Off: First Showing received a promotional package for the movie. I was wondering if Disney would do this for Tim Burton's Alice 2010, and here it is. Looks like the Dish Rag also got one.

Next, Pete Wentz and Mark Hoppus have announced that they contributed a track to the Soundtrack of the movie.

Also belonging in the topic of "I don't know how I missed this, exactly." is new (to me) merchandise from Hot Topic. Charm Bracelets for an Unbirthday

It seems there are a lot of Alice in Wonderland choices when it comes to charm bracelets.

First there are Italian charm bracelet links like the Mad Tea Party links above. It looks like you can get different links (not just Alice), but yes including Alice in Wonderland links, and then swap them in and out of the charm bracelet.

Next up there are four different charm bracelet charms that are more like what I think of when I imagine a charm bracelet. They have the Queen of Hearts pictured above, White Rabbit, Alice herself, and Cheshire Cat. Strangely, the only way to get the Mad Hatter is to get the five in one bracelet.

Finally, for those who really want to go over the top, there is the "Ultimate Disney Classic Link Charm Bracelet".

The Helena Bonham Carter fansite is hosting a look-alike contest so break out your costumes and submit a photo. But you don't look like Helena Bonham Carter? No sweat. They're also accepting look-alike entries of other Alice in Wonderland characters.

Here is an interview with British comedian Matt Lucas, who will be playing Tweedledee and Tweedledum in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland 2010.

I'm not sure who this is but they have Alice in Wonderland stamps of the Sir John Tenniel sort.

Alice is Curiouser and Curiouser on Thursday

Today we have here a post on JuicyBomb advertising the sale of Alice in Wonderland themed clothes and lingerie FOR VIRTUAL PEOPLE by Katat0nik. Yes. You read that right. Those of you who play Second Life can dress up Alice style. Limited to August only. BUT! To visit the store you will need a Second Life.

As if 2010 was already the Year of Alice, news arrives that publisher Harper/Collins will be publishing an edition of Alice in Wonderland with illustrations by Camille Rose Garcia. Via. These are really excellent. The artwork reminds me of Frank Pape.

Stop Motion Works briefly discusses the methods of animation being used in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and provides a little history about the animation in Burton's Mars Attacks. Apparently, it's been announced that there will be very little stop motion animation in Alice 2010. Stop Motion Works is understandably upset about it, considering.

Stop Motion Works provides a link to a rather venomous attack on the Tim Burton movie, titled "Alice's Adventures in Mediocrity". I thought this might be worth reading until he said he loved Big Fish and hated Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I just can't get into the head space of someone like that. BUT click this link if you want to read a tiresomely long tirade against Alice 2010, Disney, Tim Burton and his girlfriend, and yet another person dragging out the old saw about Carroll's supposed drug use. Please see this here article debunking the myth.

*Whew* OK now that's out of the way, I will say, for the record, that I'm an Alice in Wonderland fan and I'm OK with the idea of Tim Burton re-imagining Alice in Wonderland. My best hope is that it'll be good like Sleep Hollow. That is to say, very entertaining and close to the spirit of the original story but with an identity of its own. I'm hoping for that.

First up, more Alice in Wonderland inspired papercrafts. The site CubeeCraft has released this one and plans to make one a week. Their first is an Alice papercraft. (Look here for a previous Alice in Wonderland papercraft.)
