Games, Ticket Giveaway plus Alice Breaks Box Office Records

Now that Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland 2010 is out, the next battlefield is video games. As we've noted before, Disney Interactive has created Alice in Wonderland games for the Wii, DS, and PC (get them here). Here is an interview with Tim Burton about the Alice games and his level of involvement with them.

Readers in the San Francisco Bay area will be interested in this giveaway for Alice in Wonderland tickets plus some kind of points they call "$Karma" points (if you know what these are please let us know in the comments!).

Over the weekend Alice in Wonderland 2010 brought in over $116 US. Here's an article that discusses these numbers as compared to previous films by Burton and Depp. ABC Family has acquired rights to the movie, which it looks like makes it so they will be the first to show it in 2012. That's a long wait!

Here is a positive review of the Disney Alice in Wonderland games coming out this month.

Dutch theater chains which had declared a boycott on Alice in Wonderland over the DVD release schedule have also reached an agreement with Disney. I think that's it for the all the theaters that had threatened a boycott. Just in time!

I don't usually go so picture-heavy but here are some screen shots from the upcoming Alice in Wonderland video games for the Nintendo Wii and DS. I see some Cheshire Cat in there, along with all the other likely suspects. These will be available March 2 (but of course, you can pre-order them here: DS version - Wii version - PC version). I really like the graphic style on the DS screen grabs and the trailer. It makes me want to go get one so I give it a try. (Source: Disney Interactive Studios)

What?!?! Disney iPhone Alice Game Now Available

Thanks to Nancie for this tip: The Disney Alice in Wonderland iPhone "Lite" version is now available in the iPhone App Store. Unfortunately, the game play seems a little dreary to me. It's the kind of game where you walk and jump and do things to get past puzzles.

What piqued my interest, however, was the splash screen. The "Buy Tickets" button on the top left does not currently get you to a place where you can get Alice in Wonderland tickets, but maybe sometime in the next couple of weeks? The most interesting thing here is the Journal. The Journal is basically a scavenger hunt where you have to collect a number of game-world and real-world things.

When you collect items, they become unlocked. So for example, in the GPS area of the Journal, you actually have to travel to place listed and unlock it there. The game uses the GPS built into the phone to unlock the item. There are four categories of items to unlock. The first is in-game.

There are three items in this screen. It looks like as a person plays the game, they can unlock these.

The GPS section has five items to unlock, and a person would have to do a lot of traveling to get them all. Needed are visits to the Alice's Wonderland at the Disneyland Resort, the Tea Party in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, Alice's Curious Labyrinth in Disneyland Paris, the Tea Party in Hong Kong Disneyland, and Alice's Tea Party in Tokyo Disneyland.

The photo section requires that you upload the hinted-at photos to your iPhone or take pictures of them using the camera. It's pretty obvious which ones you need from the hints. I already got two of them.

Last, there is a date section, where you have to wait for the correct calendar day to activate each item. The first is the date in 1865 that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was published. The second is what date the Disney movie was release in 1951. The last is what date Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is being released.

Here are the two wallpapers I unlocked in the photo section.

 

 

Seeing as how it would take some doing for a single person to unlock all of these I propose that as people unlock them, they email them to me and I'll post them! (I'll give you credit, of course!)

Urban Decay has announced a line of Alice in Wonderland makeup. 

We announced this in July of last year, but it's been in the news again lately so we feel the need to remind everyone that Disney announced that game versions of Alice in Wonderland will be coming to the Wii and DS game platforms.

There is also news that Tim Burton will be doing an alternative version of Sleeping Beauty titled Maleficent. The press has responded with lots of chatter and of course everyone expects the title role to be filled by - you guessed it - Helena Bonham Carter.

Correction on McGee's Return Trailer and News on the Soundtrack

First off, on Monday, I posted a trailer that was purported to be the new American McGee's Alice Returns trailer. American McGee posted on his blog that this is not the case. Sorry about that everyone. At the very least, I think American McGee's should check into hiring the guy who created it. He did a good job!

Next, a band named "All Time Low" will be supplying a track on the Alice 2010 Soundtrack. Anybody know anything about them?

Woo Hoo! New Trailer for American McGee's Alice

Check it out. A new trailer for American McGee's Alice in Wonderland video game. I thought that it would be coming out in 2010, but now it looks like it's coming out in 2011? At any rate, enjoy the trailer. I hope the graphics on the game are this good. Alice looks really creepy! Cheshire cat is looking rather smashing as well. Via.

Lots of Alice Art and Let's Play

There is enough Alice in Wonderland art at this site to keep anyone occupied for hours. There is the inevitable Sir John Tenniel, but in addition there is fan art, photography, art from American McGee's Alice, and some NSFW art as well. Fast Day is Slow

Return of American McGee's Alice + Interview with Disney Studio Head

More Alice Papercrafts, Wallpapers, Wedding Dresses

First up, more Alice in Wonderland inspired papercrafts. The site CubeeCraft has released this one and plans to make one a week. Their first is an Alice papercraft. (Look here for a previous Alice in Wonderland papercraft.)

Interesting conversation on a gaming forum where someone says that the Disney film was originally going to be a movie version of the popular American McGee's Alice, until Tim Burton happened along.

Virtual Fairground Announces Alice in Wonderland MMO

Virtual Fairground, a company which produces MMO games, has announced that they are currently producing an Alice in Wonderland themed game. MMO in this case stands for "Massively Multiplayer Online" games (which makes me think of World of Warcraft first).

The game will run entirely in Flash and as such will work in any browser and is slated for release in 2010. Maybe Flash will work on an iPhone by then - we can only hope. The Virtual Fairground press release states that they're looking to create an alternative virtual world aimed at girls. Apparently MMO games for girls are normally sugary sweet and they want to build something more mysterious and dark.

Interested parties can visit the Alice in Wonderland MMO to get on their mailing list. This, along with Disney's Alice in Wonderand game, and the Return of American McGee's Alice, looks to be quite the megafrenzy. I made that word up just now to describe it. Pretty cool, huh?

The official Disney Alice site has a lot of new stuff on it, including enormo-vision versions of the teaser trailer that was released yesterday, and a synopsis. There is also a way to sign up with Disney for news (click on the hat), although I don't think that's specific to Alice in Wonderland.

There is what appears to be an official Alice in Wonderland Twitter account which is talking about a Tea Party and how to get tickets to it. Importantdate Via

The Leaky Cauldron Lists Harry Potter actors who will be appearing in Alice 2010. I had known about Severus Snape (Alan Rickman), but hadn't put Bellatrix Lestrange on my list (silly me), also there is Wormtail (Timothy Spall). The completeists out there should add: Stephen Fry, the UK Harry Potter audio book narrator.

Disney Announces Alice in Wonderland video game which will be for the Wii, Nintendo DS and Windows PC. Many other sites expressed their disappointment that it wouldn't be a port of American McGee's gothic Alice game to the Wii platform.

Rotten Tomatoes covered the Disney segment of Comic Con 2009 which happened yesterday, and which included a visit from Johnny Depp.
