Papercraft Mad Hatter, UK Events, and Philosophy

Another one I missed somehow in all the excitement. Alice in Wonderland and Philosophy. This is a book in a series which seeks to popularize philosophy by using pop culture as a frame of reference to discuss it (I'm guessing sort of like the Tao of Pooh did for Taoism.) It looks pretty interesting. Among the topics covered are: The nature of reality (Cheshire Cat), if you can make words mean whatever you want (Humpty Dumpty), and if Alice herself is a feminist icon.

A rather long list of Alice in Wonderland related kids events happening in the UK. This was found on a page where a Guardian writer tells about taking her daughter to see a Mad Hatter event at the Antony House in Cornwall, where parts of the Tim Burton movie were filmed.

Paper Wonderland has a papercraft of the American McGee's Alice video game Mad Hatter. (Thanks to Sylvie for sending me corrected information!)

Monday is Malice instead of Alice

Another film due in 2009 instead of "The Year of Alice", which we all know is 2010. I just found out about Malice in Wonderland a.k.a. Malice in Sunderland. This movie is in post-production according to IMDB. See below for an interesting preview featuring music from Prodigy's Firestarter.



Here Alice (Maggie Grace) suffers amnesia after being hit by a taxi cab and falls into another world - this one being the dark underworld of gangsters and crooks in England.

Alice in One Minute, Twelve Seconds

You're a year early! In an online Micro Movie competition, writer/director Mark Lediard won a contest held by the Regional Screen Agency, Northern Film & Media in the UK with a one-minute long film Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland. Happy Late Birthday Tim Burton Plus News

A big OOPS from me for missing Tim Burton's birthday yesterday. His birthday is August 25. Here's a nice bio on the LA Times Entertainment Blog on Burton.

Plans are continuing to build a Lewis Carroll visitor center in Daresbury, UK. The design commission was won by Purcell Miller Tritton. The center (or centre, as the British call them) will be built at the Cheshire church where the Alice in Wonderland author was born.

Friday Fan News Round-up

Various Alice in Wonderland Blackberry themes (free registration with site required) for BlackBerry Bold 9000 and Blackberry Storm.

Tim Burton's art and movies will be shown at the New York Museum of Modern Art. The show will run November 22, 2009 through April 26, 2010.

If you're like me, you didn't notice the house in the background of the scene in the teaser trailer where Alice runs up to the rabbit hole. Turns out it's an 18th Century historic house, Antony House, in Plymouth in the UK, where they also did some filming for the movie. Here it is on Google Maps.
